Un écosystème est une communauté composée de vivants et de non-vivants qui sont tous interdépendants les uns des autres. Ainsi, le sort des espèces animales et végétales est intimement lié à l’état des milieux naturels puisque tous les éléments d’un écosystème travaillent ensemble pour pour créer et maintenir un système équilibré. Inversement, un écosystème en santé présente une grande diversité d’espèces et est plus résilient aux perturbations, c’est pourquoi la protection de la biodiversité est intimemement liée à la préservation de l’environnement. Les humains, les changements climatiques et les catastrophes naturelles peuvent impacter l’équilibre des écosystèmes terrestres et aquatiques.

Les milieux humides sont des écosystèmes d’origine naturelle ou anthropique qui se distinguent par la présence d’eau de façon permanente ou temporaire, laquelle peut être diffuse, occuper un lit ou encore saturer le sol et dont l’état est stagnant ou en mouvement. Ils sont également caractérisés par des sols hydromorphes ou une végétation dominée par des espèces hygrophiles.¹Les milieux humides remplissent plusieurs fonctions écologiques et fournissent des services écosystémiques aux humains.

Sur le territoire d’Organisme de bassin versant de la rivière du Nord, on retrouve 16 169 milieux humides de plus de 0,005 km², soit près de 11 % (247 km²) de la superficie.² Les complexes de milieux humides, c’est-à-dire lorsque plusieurs milieux sont adjacents ou à une distance de moins de 30 mètres, sont également présents en bon nombre. De manière générale, les complexes de milieux humides contribuent à la connectivité des habitats, et donc à la préservation de la biodiversité. Selon la cartographie détaillée de Canards Illimités Canada, 61% des milieux humides de la ZGIE subissent une pression ayant un niveau d’impact de faible à fort.

Les espèces à statut sont des espèces animales ou végétales dont la survie est précaire ou n’est pas assurée à court ou à moyen terme.¹Leur disparition peut entrainer des perturbations profondes de l’équilibre des écosystèmes et de la chaine alimentaire.

Espèces exotiques envahissantes

Une espèce exotique envahissante (EEE) est un animal, un végétal ou un microorganisme introduit hors de son aire de répartition naturelle et dont la propagation est une menace pour l’environnement, la société ou l’économie.¹

Ces espèces dégradent l’écosystème car elles encouragent la disparition de certaines espèces indigènes et perturbent la chaine alimentaire. Elles peuvent aussi faire des dommages aux infrastructures ou empêcher certaines activités comme la navigation. Certains services écosystémiques sont perdus et lutter contre les espèces exotiques envahissantes peut coûter très cher.

On dénombre près d’une trentaine d’espèces exotiques envahissantes dans la ZGIE, toutes catégories confondues.²

La dégradation ou la perte d’habitat fait référence à la détérioration ou à la destruction, plutôt rapide, d’habitats nécessaires à la vie des espèces y vivant. Le dépérissement de l’intégrité de ces habitats entraine la dégradation de la qualité de l’eau et la perte de services écosystémiques. L’accélération de la disparition de certaines espèces et la diminution de la valeur esthétique et touristique, impactent nos richesses patrimoniales.

Aperçu de la problématique sur le territoire d’Organisme de bassin versant de la rivière du Nord :

Les principales sources de dégradation des habitats dans la ZGIE du Nord sont l’urbanisation, les activités minières et agricoles, la perturbation et la fragmentation des milieux humides, la propagation d’espèces exotiques envahissantes, les apports excessifs en nutriments et matières en suspension, la présence de déchets et les changements climatiques.

Issu du plan collectif pour la pérennité des usages et des écosystèmes de la baie de Carillon, le projet de réalisation du plan de conservation des milieux riverains répond à la majorité des problématiques identifiées lors du diagnostic de la zone d’étude, soit la dégradation des milieux naturels riverains et des milieux humides, la perte de biodiversité, les inondations récurrentes du secteur, la perte d’accessibilité, les conflits d’usage, l’accumulation de débris et l’atténuation du sentiment d’appartenance des riverains.

Afin de répondre aux besoins exprimés par les MRC de la région des Laurentides (Antoine-Labelle, Argenteuil, Deux-Montagnes, La Rivière-du-Nord, Les Laurentides, Les Pays-d’en-Haut et Thérèse-De Blainville), la MRC Les Moulins et la Ville de Mirabel et les soutenir dans l’élaboration de leur Plan régional des milieux humides et hydriques (PRMHH) respectif, les organismes de bassins versants Organisme de bassin versant de la rivière du Nord, COBALI, COBAMIL et OBV RPNS ont lancé une série d’ateliers virtuels alliant partage d’expérience et périodes d’échange entre professionnels.

À l’occasion du MOIS DE L’EAU 2020, Organisme de bassin versant de la rivière du Nord a lancé une plateforme interactive permettant au grand public de découvrir les fantastiques écosystèmes que constituent les milieux humides et hydriques en explorant l’un de ceux qui se trouvent à proximité !

Organisme de bassin versant de la rivière du Nord s’est associé à la firme Habitat, une entreprise proposant des solutions fondées sur la nature visant à alimenter et accélérer la transition écologique afin de favoriser la résilience des territoires. L’équipe d’Habitat réalisera une caractérisation géomatique de la ZGIE, puis analysera les services écosystémiques rendus, pour finalement déterminer la valeur économique associée aux services évalués. Afin d’assurer une harmonisation du projet avec les besoins réels du milieu, Organisme de bassin versant de la rivière du Nord coordonnera une table de réflexion régionale, composée de partenaires municipaux, économiques et communautaires.
